Cyprus - Living In Style

Article Date: 2008-08-10

Cyprus is an island that most dream of visiting. With its abundance of culture, history, beaches, beautiful weather and fabulous food and wine, Cyprus boasts many attractions for all visiting it's shores.

Lying at the crossroads of three continents, various cultures and nations have left their mark on the island. One of the oldest civilisations and third largest island of the Mediterranean, both the Greek and Turkish influences are still evident and widespread to this day. The architecture and food of these two nations in particular have influenced the daily life on this island.

Cyprus attracts over 2.4 million tourists a year, many falling in love with the laid back lifestyle. The Cypriot economy is a prosperous one and visitors find the shopping, restaurants and beaches of the major cities exciting and fun, living up to the high European standard. Some of the bigger cities on the island such as Paphos, Larnaca and Nicosia boast modern shops, surrounded by the old town centers and picturesque historical buildings.

Many visitors spend their days wandering through the narrow streets, visiting the many markets and stopping for ouzo in many of the local tavernas. Plate breaking and good food is sure to be found in these traditional little eateries. There are many festivals and cultural performances happening in Cyprus throughout the year. Even an organised trip into the countryside guarantees an exciting tourist attraction, with a variety of citrus orchards, olive groves and vineyards to visit.

With friendly hospitality and almost 300 days of sunshine a year, Cyprus often lures visitors back who wish to purchase property and become locals. Purchasing property is relatively easy. There are many real estate agents on the island who can help with rate negotiations and banking details. English is widely spoken, making the process much easier. Paphos remains one of the most popular choices for property investment in Cyprus. With its quaint fishing harbour, beautiful beaches, golf courses and established English community, it's easy to understand why Cyprus becomes more than just a holiday destination.

The Jet-to-Let-Magazine 2008 Annual Conference was held in London at the Hilton Metropole. There were many expert property investors with years spent in the industry. Seventy seven percent agreed the credit crunch will not affect their decision to buy property abroad. Most were of the opinion overseas property markets were a better investment than the UK. The vote for asset property abroad was as follows:

- Cyprus: 39.7%
- Morocco: 19.4%
- France: 13.3%
- Germany: 5.1%
- Italy: 5%
